How Rebranding Helped Me & Saying Hello To #coppercreativity

After deciding to rebrand my site very early in 2018, it was 1 of the few yearly goals I set myself and I took it incredibly seriously: reading brilliant books, planned in my sketchbook, procrastinated / worried over the final details then decided to get over my fear and release it. When it was time to press publish you finally realise why it was all worth it and all the good things that can come from reaching your end goal. Here are just a few reasons why rebranding was a good move for me, have you rebranded recently? Are you planning a rebrand? What have you learnt from your experience(s)?

Escaping Social Media: The Good, The Bad & The Ugly

It may or may not have escaped your attention that I took quite a long hiatus from all things social media and what started out as a much needed unplug to send time with loved ones quickly turned into a 'I'm so busy there's simply no time to post' thing. Taking time away from the screen can be a double-edged sword in that it has good qualities of allowing you to recharge but if you're trying to establish an online presence it can be harder to get back on track. I think establishing a balance is key but every now and again sometimes it's a bit too much and a break is needed. Here are some of the reasons why it's a good thing and a not so glorious thing. How do you feel about having some breathing space from social media?

My Summer Goals For The Blog

Here in the UK we're currently experiencing what seems like a never-ending summer, which is a good thing as it's synonymous with sun, more skin making an appearance and the possibilities of holidays however now we're all adults there's a lot more work needed to pay those bills. As yet I've still got to establish some kind of balance between my new intense job role and my pure passion project of the blog so over the Summer whilst I have some time off it's the perfect excuse to experiment with this process. Over the Summer there are some goals I wish to tackle and get a better handle on especially for the blog which has taken a back seat of late. What goals do you have during this season?

A Recap Of 6 Months On The Blog

Every 6 months or so I like to check in with the blog as it's good t occasional sing about things you're proud of and take a look back at work that's not as good to help produce better content in the future. A lot can happen in 6 months and you may find your style can become more refined even with the smallest of gestures or you may have tried something fairly outlandish to your usual routine. I always think it's great practice to celebrate your achievements and be realistic of your misadventures you may have had with your online space plus have a bit of a catch up on missed posts. Why I Use A Monthly Blog Calendar

Everyone who runs a blog does so in their own way which can evolve over time so that their process may look nothing like what they first started out with. Something that's been with me for a while now is my monthly editorial calendar, it's a way to plan the next blog month and work it all out all whilst still creating and hopefully not have a post day sneak up on me. This, for me, is an essential part of the process is an important bit of organisation that still offers some versatility. Here's why I'm not letting go of the blog calendar just yet, do you prefer a more planned system or do you like spur of the moment posts?

Creating More Mindful Content

For a while now I've been on my own personal quest to make the content I do put out into the world to be more mindful and be more aware, this is in hopes to help others, produce the content that I truly enjoy but should lessen my reliance on the 'fluff' blog posts as a bridge to the next insightful blog post. Of course this is very much trial and error plus it isn't always as successful in practice but I've found my approach going through a slight change of late in terms of not only post composition but subject matter. Here's how I'm attempting to include more mindful content on my little slice of internet, how do you create more considered work?

The Good Points Of Changing Your Blog Output

At the beginning of the year I invested in a session with Sophie from A Considered Life through her Content Strategy Service, she gave me a lot of stellar advice (a lot of which I'm still implementing) but one of those ideas to take some of the strain off myself was to lessen my weekly blog post output  from 4 to 3 days a week. It's been a hard adjustment but welcome one as there is still a lot of balancing to do in other life aspects, I've no idea how other talented folks do it because it's a real toughie, however cutting down blog posts was actually a good thing. How do you schedule your blog posts? Are you a daily / few posts a week / whenever the mood takes you kind of creator?

Where I Find My Inspiration

Inspiration can at times be a fickle mistress, on occasion you'll have a tidal wave of ideas that it can be overwhelming however on the flip side you can also feel like there are no new ideas you want to complete. It's fair to say there are no truly original ideas as so man concepts are an exploration or extension of something else but that doesn't change the fact that you have your own voice to put out there to use another angle. I'm constantly on the hunt for fresh ideas and I don't just mean for blog posts but for life admin, decor, design aesthetics and general ideas that push my space on the internet a little further out there. Here's where I source those motivational ideas? Where are your favourite places to find exciting concepts or favourite people to look up to?

What A Day Of Blogging Looks Like

It's been a year and a half since I took a look at what a day of blogging looks like for me, as so much has changed for me and my working schedule I thought I'd revisit how I do things. As I work during the week for the 9-5 slog the majority of blogging related tasks need to completed on the weekend but I'm also trying to balance steady productivity with elusive rest so I'm not overwhelmed come Monday morning for the monotony. Weekends are for image creation, writing and scheduling. Here's what I get up to come Saturday morning, what does your blogging schedule look like?

Favourite Blog Posts From 2017

2017 was a good year for all things Not Copper Armour, although small in numbers compared to some but looking back at the past year(s) there's been a whole lot of growth on and off screen -  this includes both imagery and content with a slightly new direction I'm happier with. There were a lot of changes and there's going to be a whole lot more to come in in the following months, so I thought why not take a trip through this year's archives with some of the work I'm most proud of and enjoy. What blogs & content have you been loving (whether it be yours or someone else's)?

A Few Plans For The Blog

After a few weeks off the grid it's given me time to reflect on the things I want and make a start on some new ideas for this for this space. for a while I've felt it's been an uphill struggle to produce quality content partly because there doesn't seem enough time to fit everything in but also as I felt a little lost at sea with what this blog stands for. After my last post on where I've been during some quiet time touched upon a few plans but this post should delve into more detail of what you can see in the near future (it also serves as my tick sheet plus makes me more likely to attempt it).  Do you have any plans for your blog?

What I've Been Doing During A Social Media Blackout

A very few of you beady eyed folks will have noticed that things all Not Copper Armour have been really quiet, in fact all but none existent which wasn't planned but was needed. After last month's blog post about balancing blogging and full time work it was becoming apparent that I hadn't found it yet, the fact is whilst I was practicing what I preached there physically wasn't enough time in the day to fit it all in. It was time to take stock properly of what I'm doing, how I'm doing it and what I actually need or want. Here's why it all went dark on the blog and why it wasn't as bad as it sounds.
