A Year Of Minimalism - A Recap

At the start of 2018 I made the decision to embrace elements of minimalism that I thought could work with my current lifestyle (blog post found here). After watching several documentaries such as Minimalism: A Documentary About The Important Things (found on Netflix) , reading beautiful blogs such as A Considered Life and Jessica Rose Williams - it has really helped compound my growing feeling that I needed to make a change and be more considerate of what I consume, buy and recycle. As a human it can be so difficult to be truly minimal as we’re all running our own race plus our current climate garners towards the power of ‘ease’ rather than the necessary. Our passions and personal lifestyles don’t always take minimalism into account but like so many things it’s a work in progress. In this post it’s all about the baby steps I’ve taken to not be such a wasteful soul.

What 2018 Looked Like In Photos

One annual post I love collating is my look back on the year through my camera, some images you will have seen through the blog, some on instagram / stories and a few that would’ve been left to linger in the files. I enjoy these posts as they capture the little moments in the every day adventures, in comparing the 2017’s review blog post you may notice that I’ve been working hard not only on my current photographic style but also what I what I want my year to look like for me. It’s meant more art, nature, confidence with a selfie and exploration.

A Recap Of 2018's Word Of The Year & My 2019 Choice

Last year I said goodbye to the tradition of setting a list of resolutions in favour of establishing a single word that will encompass the entire year - 2018 saw the word ‘ G R O W T H ‘ come into play. As the year progressed I’ve become a convert of this system as it cultivates a thought process that allows us to show up differently for work and life, I’ve found it much more fulfilling. So here’s a recap of 2018’s word and what I’m taking forward in 2019.

A Catch Up Of 2018 In Blog Posts

Every year I like to look back on the blog not only as an evaluation but also as a celebration, 2018 has been a quieter one as my focus has been on other life aspects but despite this I’ve found this year more than any other has welcomed in some of my favourite content and behind the scenes planning. Sometimes it’s good to have a recap of the previous year to be reminded of the positives rather than linger on the negatives. If you’re new around these parts or simple need a catch up then here is some of the content you may have missed from the past 12 months.

Lessons Learnt Creating Imagery For Your Blog

As some of you guys may know, photography has been 1 of my ultimate loves for many years so when I finally plucked up the courage to marry this with the urge to create through blogging it seemed like the perfect chance to bring out the camera. However even after studying, taught the subject, worked for businesses and their imagery - 1 of the hardest challenges was to find an image style that suited me plus what I wanted to say. It’s well established that you may not find comfort in certain genres within your artistic field and with 1 as huge as photography … it’s a no brainer. For me I’ve found that getting to a happy place with my rhythm and aesthetic has taken longer than any other journey I’ve taken with anything let alone photography but for now I’m starting to feel at peace with what goes out off into the world through my ‘brand’. Here are few lessons learnt from attempting to define my own personality for the blog and the accompanying aesthetic - do you outsource your images? Have you struggled with any aspects of image - making?

Why I'm Saying Goodbye To A Yearly Goals List

It's fair to say I'm starting my blogging year a little later than others but I wanted time to consider my goals and what I wanted from the year. After all the good, bad and frustration that 2017 brought especially after reassessing my goals list it became clear that a change needed to happen. Some of my favourite folks on the internet don't follow the traditional resolutions ritual instead they prefer just oneword that will hopefully shape and guide their year (hopefully) to fruition. This year I'm choosing 'G R O W T H' as my key word and here's why I'm forgoing the usual list. What's on your yearly goals list?
